Progressing your career in 2021? Top tips to get you started...

2020 saw lots of people lose their jobs due to the pandemic – a painful upheaval for many, while for others it may have given them the perfect opportunity to focus on themselves, their career and/or life goals.

If you are looking for a new job or a new career, read on for some of our tips and ideas on how you can progress:

1. Register with an agency
Agencies are still on the look out for people to represent and still have roles to fill. Being represented by an agency also means they may be able to offer you additional professional help, just like CBR’s own CV and Interview Coaching services. Register with CBR today here or contact the team to discuss our services and how we can help you with your search.

2. Improve your CV
Whether you have been furloughed, made redundant or had your hours reduced, you may find you have a bit more time on your hands. Using this period to enhance your CV is a great idea even if you are not sure that you’re looking for a new career. In the current climate, updating and improving your CV is a good use of time when things can feel a bit uncertain. At CBR we can help with CV Coaching. Please contact us here today for more information.

3. Learn a new skill
If you are currently unemployed then retraining is a great way to increase your chances of securing a new job. There are plenty of accessible resources that can help you upskill and perhaps you could learn something you’ve always wanted to. If you are job hunting and already have transferrable skills, maybe consider looking at slightly different job titles.

4. Prepare for video interviews
Some people may prefer video interviews, but some may dread them. Make sure you prepare for video interviews as much as you would for a face to face one, maybe even more just to ensure there are no technical glitches! At CBR we offer interview coaching which can help prepare you for all the regular and killer questions that might be thrown at you. CBR’s Interview Coaching can really make a difference if you’re unsure how best to prepare. Please contact us here today for more information.

5. Networking
Obviously networking face to face isn’t possible at the moment, but it doesn’t mean you can’t do it online. LinkedIn is a great place to get in touch with people in the industry you are in or want to get into. If your confidence needs a boost, CBR’s Interview Coaching could be just what you need. Our recruitment specialists can talk you through the dos and don’ts and help you make that initial first impression a lasting one – leading to those all-important interviews. Please contact us here today for more information on all our services.
